Attorney William Banton is a seasoned trial attorney with extensive experience in medical malpractice and long-term care litigation.  Over the course of his career, Mr. Banton has also specialized in mental health, including foster care and sexual abuse cases, as well as general liability and civil rights defense. He has represented major asbestos manufacturers in toxic tort matters and numerous municipalities across Pennsylvania in civil rights cases litigated in federal court.

At the request of the Philadelphia Court, Mr. Banton served as a mediator to address the COVID-induced backlog of significant medical malpractice and long-term care cases. As a senior member of the Philadelphia Medical Malpractice Bar, he contributed to the Philadelphia First Judicial District Court’s committee, helping to develop strategies, policies, and procedures to reduce the court’s backlog of medical and long-term care cases.

Mr. Banton is a member of the American Board of Trial Advocates and the International Academy of Trial Lawyers. He is also a select member of the American College of Trial Lawyers. Since 2006, he has been named a Pennsylvania Super Lawyer in the area of personal injury defense, focusing on medical malpractice, long-term care, and behavioral health care. In addition, Mr. Banton has held various leadership roles on the boards of several community organizations, including serving as President of the Latham Park Homeowners Association and on the board of directors of Intercommunity Action, Inc.

Throughout his career, Mr. Banton has been dedicated to education and mentorship. He has lectured on healthcare-related topics, educating physicians and long-term care staff about the litigation process. He has also participated in mock trial seminars hosted by Temple University School of Law, including a seminar for the Philadelphia AIDS Law Project, which raises awareness about discrimination faced by individuals with HIV/AIDS. Notably, he was invited to participate as counsel in a mock trial at the National Judicial College in Reno, Nevada, and has worked closely with high school students in the Philadelphia School District through mock trial competitions in partnership with Temple University Beasley School of Law.

Mr. Banton earned his undergraduate degree from Temple University in Philadelphia and his Juris Doctor from the Southern University Law Center in Baton Rouge, Louisiana. After completing a Common Pleas Court clerkship with the Honorable Theodore A. McKee, former Chief Judge of the Third Circuit Court of Appeals, he served as an Assistant City Solicitor and later as Assistant Chief City Solicitor for the Philadelphia Law Department. Mr. Banton has also held leadership roles at his firm, serving as Assistant Director of the Medical Malpractice Group and as co-chair of the Behavioral Health Risk and Liability Practice Group.
