Michael Brophy spent over 35 years as a trial attorney focusing on product liability, medical malpractice, professional malpractice and mass tort proceedings. Mr. Brophy has held an AV rating for the past 18 years, and received Super Lawyer recognition from his peers every year since 2010.
He has mediated cases with lawyers from Pennsylvania, New York, New Jersey and Delaware.
He represented many clients in the healthcare field including Thomas Jefferson University Hospital, Lower Bucks Hospital and Albert Einstein Medical Center.
Mr. Brophy was a founding partner of Goldberg Segalla’s Philadelphia office. While at Goldberg Segalla, from 2007 to 2016, he developed a significant mediation practice and continued participating in the Philadelphia County Court of Common Pleas Judge Pro Tempore program.
From 2000- 2007, Attorney Brophy had an active trial practice with Harvey, Pennigton Ltd. devoted primarily to product liability, medical and psychiatric malpractice claims.
During his 14 years with the Lavin firm, 1986-2000, Mr. Brophy concentrated on the defense of General Motors Corporation in product liability, along with the defense of professional malpractice actions for many healthcare providers.
Beginning in the 1990s, Mike volunteered to serve as a Judge Pro Tempore in Philadelphia County Court of Common Pleas. He handled cases including traditional medical malpractice and personal injury claims as well as nursing home, products liability and commercial contract and insurance coverage claims.
Prior to joining the Lavin Firm, he spent five years at Palmer, Biezup and Henderson, four years as Supervising Staff Attorney for the United States Third Circuit Court of Appeals; and one year following his law school graduation as Law Clerk for Hon. William W. Vogel of the Montgomery County Court of Common Pleas.
